Popular test drives

In the photo, the interior of the Skoda Fabia stands out for its rigor and pleasantness. The seats are upholstered in fabric, but will not wear out quickly. They are resistant to any external factors and amaze with their durability. The plastic in the cabin is a bit stiff, but this only makes it stronger and more stable. The assembly is distinguished by its high quality approach and conscientiousness, it is quite rare to find crickets inside the machine. The dashboard of the designation on the Skoda Fabia is made concisely and accurately.

The handle on the lever that shifts gears can rub and wear a little over time. If the driver constantly holds on to one place on the steering wheel, then scuffs can also be found on it over time. The volume of the trunk and the volume of the gas tank in the version is small. The ventilation grate is weak, there were many cases when it simply broke. Over time, leakage under the back door is possible, the carpet and other coverings in the cabin can even become moldy because of this. The interior lighting of the Skoda Fabia is only sometimes lame, but often completely satisfied by drivers.

Engines of various modifications are installed on the Skoda Fabia-1 car – in the model range there are both diesel and gasoline engines. Among gasoline ICEs, the most common are power units with volumes 1200 and 1400 cm3the most popular diesel engines are TDI engines with a volume 1900 cm3.

The simplest engine on Fabia – 1.4 L 8-valve. MPI borrowed from Felicia:

  • with a lower camshaft;
  • with push rods;
  • with timing chain drive.

On the Skoda Felicia, a similar engine was carbureted, on the Fabia distributed injection was already installed. ICE 1.4 MPI has a power of only 68 l. With.but the car by the city consumes on average 8.5 l/100 kma on the road and at all 6 l. The problem of these engines is the burnout of the cylinder head gasket, the first sign of a malfunction is the ingress of oil into the antifreeze. Another inconvenience on the Fabia is the too compact fuel tank, its capacity is only 45 liters.

On almost all Fabia-1 machines, the throttle assembly is considered a sore point, the malfunction is eliminated by cleaning the device. With electronic chokes, the situation is worse – they often need to be replaced. In general, all the engines installed on the Fabia are reliable, and this is a considerable merit of Volkswagen. The most voluminous of the entire line of power units is 2 liter 16 valve ICE power 115 l. With.with it the car can accelerate to 195 km/h.

The list of engines for Skoda Fabia 3 2019 is quite large, but only a few are delivered to us. For the novelty, the Czechs have provided gasoline and diesel engines. Starting the list of petrols is the 1.0-liter MPI 3-cylinder power plant, which develops only 60 horsepower. A more productive modification of the same “engine” already generates 75 “horses”.

Next comes the already turbocharged 1.2-liter TSI petrol version, which, depending on the boost level, delivers 90 horsepower (160 Nm) or 110 horsepower (175 Nm). The diesel engineers attributed the 3-cylinder 1.4-liter turbocharged TDI engine, which generates 75, 90 or 105 horsepower.

It’s a pity, but diesel-powered power units will not be supplied to our market. Instead, the company decided to install 4-cylinder naturally aspirated 1.6-liter 105-horsepower engines for the Russians. Consumption of gasoline versions does not exceed 5 liters. Diesel engines consume approximately 3.1 liters for every 100 kilometers. The motors received a start / stop system, and also meet the most stringent European environmental standards Euro-6.

The connecting link between the engine and the wheels are 5- or 6-speed manual gearboxes. They also provided a 7-band DSG robotic box for expensive versions. Models with 1.6-liter atmospheric “engines” work only with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

As a basis, the Czechs decided to use the PQ26 platform, which is a deep modernization of the previous generation hatchback. The wheels mounted in front have an independent suspension with McPherson struts, and the rear wheels received a semi-independent suspension based on a torsion beam.

The brake system of the generation has ventilated disc brakes at the front and standard drum-type brakes at the rear. The machine is easily controlled with the help of a rack and pinion steering mechanism, which received an electro-hydraulic amplifier.

Specialists of the company paid a lot of attention to the topic of security. The new Skoda Fabia 3 received such electronic security systems as ESC, ABS, EBV, MSR. As a separate option, you can install the technology of automatic braking in city traffic, a technology that controls driver fatigue.

In addition, six airbags can be installed in the car. Skoda Fabia 3 passed the Euro-NCAP crash test, which resulted in 5 stars, which is a good result. Therefore, this car can be safely advised for the purchase of family people.

Engines and transmission

For the first generation of Fabia, eight options were offered motor.

The range of Skoda Fabia gasoline engines is represented by a three-cylinder 1.2 liter with a capacity of 55 hp. and two versions of 1.4-liter, 71 and 96 hp each. respectively. These are the most popular options on the secondary market today.

The range of diesel engines of the first Fabia is a 1.4-liter turbocharged version with 71 hp, a naturally aspirated 1.9-liter with 61 hp, a turbocharged 1.9-liter (96 hp) and, especially for RS version, 1.9 liter turbodiesel with 125 hp.

Owners and experts note a problem typical of all Fabias with 1.2 and 1.4 petrol engines. In the versions of the first years of release – timing chain drive. Too free play of the tensioner rod of its tensioner led to chain slips by several teeth during engine start. As a result, you have to change the chain already on a run of 60 thousand km, otherwise it may be too late.

Another problem of the same Fabios of the first years of production -

Another problem of the same Fabios of the first years of production is overheating of the catalyst with a malfunction of the EGR valve. After modernization in 2006, the problem was radically solved by replacing the timing chain with a belt. But it must be changed strictly according to the regulations, no later than every 60 thousand km. mileage, and, of course, immediately after buying a used Fabia.

Another nuisance of the petrol versions of Skoda Fabia, which is noted by the owners, is a short lifespan. ignition coils. Moreover, the owners are advised to take only original parts as a replacement – cheap analogues cause problems with the stable operation of the motor.

And of course, it is worth remembering that the 1.2-liter and 1.4-liter engines of a compact car are not designed for high-speed trips on highways. Already at speeds above 120 km / h for the 55-horsepower version of the engine, a situation begins with the threat of oil overheating, excessive deposits of carbon deposits on the cylinder walls. This may even lead to valve burnout. In addition, under such loads, aerodynamic noise and longitudinal buildup of the body appear on the track.

But the “city test” of the first generation Fabia passes perfectly: compact dimensions, excellent visibility, a good tandem of a small engine and checkpoint.

The motors of the first Fabia were aggregated with a 5-speed “mechanics” and a 4-speed “automatic”.

The difference between restyling and dorestyling

In the 1st generation Skoda Fabia, which could be called pre-styling, the condition was easily determined using the mileage and the general age of the vehicle. He needed a full-fledged care, and the car was quite demanding. With maintenance, which is carried out on time, it was possible to stretch the resource and durability of the car for many years. Its body was very strong, and rotting and corrosion did not torment the owner of the car with frequent reminders of himself. Drivers are trying to find out if this model is bent or not. Of course, sometimes the valves have a hard time, but they are resistant to external factors and hold up well for several years.

Restyling BME, BMD, CGPA, however, began to be introduced only after 2004, and in the first couple it was not warmly received by car owners. But after a few months, they noticed that the equipment of this version is much better than the first, and the number of functions and systems is seriously different. Also, after restyling, two airbags appeared in front and two on the side. This innovation has greatly helped save several lives, because riding with so many pillows has become much safer and calmer.
